Ascension

Ascension
To rise.
They’d seen him rise before
In the company of prophets
Elijah and Moses,
They’d seen him risen
from a tomb
In a garden among roses.

He’d appeared
many times,
They’d kept count
But there was a finality
To the meeting on the mount.

What he left behind
as a bequest, a legacy
The residue of his memory
His stories
His teachings,
and his sense of hope.
